As we celebrate Father’s Day, we celebrate the men that have impacted our lives most deeply. There is something within masculinity that is wonderous in the way God created man. There is mystery to the rough, strong, dominant, powerful essence that resides in the heart of a man.
Not all men display each of these characteristics in equal amounts, but there is a desire for provision and protection that resides in the heart of masculinity. There is a desire within femineity that longs to be provided for, cherished and protected. All of these general instincts and qualities that have been instilled in the fibers of our being point to a deeper picture of how God interacts with his chosen people. Over and over again, God depicts his people as his betrothed. “And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy.” Hosea 2:19 “For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called.” Isaiah 54:5
In our fallen and broken world, not all experiences that relate to the men that have played a part in our lives have been positive. However, the desire for meaningful connection leads us to God and Christ. God is the ultimate husband and father who will never leave us or forsake us. God is perfect- never unfaithful and provides what is best for us. Ephesians 5:25 says, “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ love the church and gave himself up for her.” Christ loved the church so much that he humbled himself off his throne and came as a human to give himself up so that we may be saved.
We thank the husbands and fathers who sacrifice their lives and their desires in order to protect and provide for their families. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of the faithful steadfast love that is given by our heavenly father. We are grateful for all that they do in the big and small ways to take care of their households, even during the times that you are not thanked for going to work every day or relating to your families in love.
Whether you have experienced this masculine love on this earth or you long for it now through your Heavenly Father, it can ultimately be yours through the saving grace of Jesus and our Heavenly Father. Whether your husband or father has provided for you or not, God and Christ are our ultimate protector and provider. He will never leave us or forsake us. His covenant is with us for eternity.
